There is an undeniable fact that studying at the university is an independent learning process, which means that students are required to learn by themselves and teachers just play a role as a guide. In other words, students are encouraged to take the initiative in all steps of learning and to be self-motivated to acquire the knowledge. Therefore, presentation turns out to be one particularly good example of this learning method.
In Viet Nam, presentation is in high favor with both lecturers and students at the university. At the beginning of the course, students are divided into small groups and are delegated a topic from the teacher. The topics of presenting are incredibly diversified, depending on the fields of studying such as Economy, Science, or Agriculture, etc. There are three main steps to deal with a presenting task on campus: preparing, presenting and receiving feedback.
- In the time of preparation, there are a great deal of tasks that the students have to carry out. Firstly, they need to do research about the subject to collect useful and precise information. After assessing a rich source of information, it is important for students to make a clear structure of their presentation and sort out major ideas that they want put emphasis on in their presentation.
- Next comes presenting stage- the most difficult and challenging task to students. They have to make a lively and interesting presentation in front of the lecturer and all class. . Normally, presentation is made by one or two members in the group, or sometimes all of the members present different parts respectively. Since this stage has a big impact on the total performance assessment, students make the best effort to produce the best presentation.
- Finally, the lecturer will give their comment and make judgment about the presentation. This part is most eagerly expected by students as it shows how efficient their presentation is.
By ways of conclusions, presentation is an effective learning method that has become more popular to university students in Viet Nam. Thanks to this, students have a good chance to practice their presenting skill, which is extremely important for their future career.
